'69 Show

I finally got the slides made into pictures of the '69 Who concert in St. Louis. My husband took this one (and about 17 others) at the show. Haven't had time to edit them yet, but still pretty cool, huh?

Wow, that is crazy. Roger looks CLASSIC. And with John in the background? Perfect.
That was 23 years before I was born...

Hi Whoie
You beat me at going to theWho.
I saw them in my then hometown Voorburg when PTfan was 4. On stage a tapedeck to play the synthesiser tracks from Who's next.
Amazing experience.

Great picture! Very very cool.
I have some slides that I never got developed for fear they'd be stolen (it happened to a friend who had Led Zep film/negatives stolen).
I have a very cool shot of Roger and Pete from the FIRST farewell tour in 1983. I've moved so much though, I don't know exactly where they are...I was hoping to share them w/ Murray Lerner for his film!
Hope you are well,
Take care,
Sue

Hey - I've played on that very same stage!!!!

Twenty years after The Lads, to be precise. It was one of the last "Super Jams" held here, and everybody from Cheap Trick, to Molly Hatchet, to REO Speedwagon, Van Halen, Jack Bruce, Billy Peak; and a host of local talent like early versions of Rondo's Blues Deluxe, Buffalo Bob and the Bedroom Blues Band, White Cross, Dread Zepplin, Randy Raley's All-Stars, Radio Rich & the Classics Band, some dude named Bob Kuban - and a humble little trio known as Cross Town Traffic, featuring Yours Truly thumping the tubs!!

I was also fortunate enough to take part in a most unusual event earlier that same year - I actually played behind both Mel Bay AND Les Paul during a guitar seminar held at the Keil. Mel's grandson Kevin was my bass player at the time (he also worked in the family shop in Kirkwood), and he asked me if I'd be up for an "interesting chore" as he called it.

I didn't know I was being set up to back two Guitar Gods, but I wouldn't trade the experience for al the tea in China!!! Both gents were in their late 60's / early 70's by then, but they both still had FEARSOME chops, let me tell you!! Luckily, Kevin was the other half of the rhythm section, so I wasn't totally out of my element.

When they began to "cut heads" in earnest I was in hog heaven, and by the time Dottie Bennett came on to do "How High the Moon" I was GONE!!!!! And by the end of the night, both Mel and Les seemed to be VERY amused by the enthusiastic support they got from their ad-hoc rhythm section - even if I did go a little "off the wall" on the codas......

But then again, how in the hell do you blow the minds of two men who literally "wrote the books" that shaped popular music into the vibrant form it has today?

You know, maybe being a musical gypsy (or nomad) wasn't so bad after all - maybe there IS an upside to "avoiding" fame and fortune, if one can have experiences like these..........

Thanks for conjuring up some wonderful memories with these pics, my dear - hope to see more of them in the future!!
8^)
